TheDepartment of Education & Skills are inviting patron bodies to apply to open a new national school in Knocknacarra, in September 2014

Educate Together will apply to open this school. Between now and the closing date for the application, June 14th, Educate Together will be working to ensure that the strongest possible application will be submitted. If you would like to help, or get involved,please get in touch.

8/03/2012 Announcement on New School Made

The Department of Education & Skills (DES) announced the patronage
being assigned to new primary schools opening in 2012 & 2013.
Unfortunately, the new school proposed for Knocknacarra was not assigned
to Educate Together. It appears as though it is planned to be an Irish
medium school, operated by City of Galway VEC & An Foras Pátrúnachta. More information will follow. For further information, see the attached link.

Educate Together Await Announcement on New School for Knocknacarra (3/02/2012)

Educate Together are awaiting an announcement from the Department of Education & Skills on the designation of the new primary school proposed for Knocknacarra, Galway. This announcement should be made in the next number of days or weeks. In the mean time, pre-enrolment for the Knocknacarra group is growing by the day, and parents in the area are encouraged to use the on-line pre-enrolment application on this website. As soon as an announcement is made, it will be up dated on this site.

Application for Educate Together National School for Knocknacarra Submitted (6/10/2011)

Following the very successful response to Educate Together's local campaign in Knocknacarra, an application has been submitted to the Department of Education & Skills by the patron body to open a National School in Knocknacarra in September 2013. In a few short weeks over 40 children were pre-enroled, displaying a strong interest in the locality in the Educate Together model. Many parents have also expressed an interest in getting involved in a Start Up group. 

Educate Together will be organising a meeting of all interested people within the next few weeks. Pre-enrollment is still open, parents can pre-enrol their children for the proposed new school at any time online.

Successful Launch of Educate Together Group in Knocknacarra (21/09/2011)

Following the successful meeting last week in the Clybaun Hotel, Educate Together have set up a start-up group in the Galway suburb of Knocknacarra. The group is being set up because of a decision of the Department of Education & Skills to establish a new national school in Knocknacarra in 2013. 

Jarlath Munnelly, Regional Development Officer for Ireland West, said: “The meeting was a success, a number of parents came along to pre-enrol their children, and some of them were also interested in getting involved in the start-up group. There was generally a lot of support in the area for the project, which is very encouraging."

A website has been set up, where parents can pre-enrol their children on line. "There is a website set up to allow parents and the wider community to keep up to date with Educate Togethers activities in this area. It also allows parents to pre-enrol children for the school."

Educate Together are submitting an application to the Department of Education & Skills to open this primary school, in early October. A decision should be made by the end of the year, at which point parents will know for sure who is going to be the patron of the proposed new primary school. Educate Together are accepting enrolments for junior infants from 2013 onwards.
